NEWS/PRESS RELEASE
![]() Financial literacy for the youth. The Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC) brings its Be a Wise Saver (BAWS) campaign for students to help instill in them the values of wise saving and responsible banking. Atty. Ma. Saddy Mila Ena B. Rillorta, Officer-in-Charge of the Institutional Relations Department, led the financial literacy lecture to students, which is part of PDIC’s activities in the pilot run of its PDIC Caravan – Abot Lingkod Program in Davao City. Back-to-back lectures on wise saving and responsible banking were conducted by the Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC) to more than 800 students of Assumption College of Davao and Ateneo de Davao University last June 17, 2019 as part of its Be a Wise Saver (BAWS) Campaign. Atty. Ma. Saddy Mila Ena B. Rillorta, Officer-in-Charge of PDIC’s Institutional Relations Department, led the lectures that also pilot-tested BAWS’s newest module specifically tailored for students and the youth. The BAWS campaign, conducted year-round, is PDIC’s flagship financial literacy advocacy that teaches various sectors of society to practice the 7 Habits of a Wise Saver and educates them on the importance of making informed financial decisions. The BAWS campaign, now on its 10th year, was part of the activities held during the pilot run of the PDIC Caravan – Abot Lingkod Program undertaken to observe the 17th Depositor Protection and Awareness Week (DPAW) on June 16 to 22, 2019. The Caravan, undertaken during the Kabisig Government Expo at the Abreeza Mall in Davao City, fielded a PDIC Team which assisted clients in their inquiries on settlement of deposit insurance claims, claims against the assets of closed banks, and loan obligations with closed banks, and ways to acquire properties through public biddings or negotiated sale. An information dissemination campaign among exhibit-goers to inform them about PDIC and the benefits and limitations of deposit insurance was also held. This year’s DPAW theme is “Bank deposit mo, protektado!”, which is meant to inform and assure the public that there is a government institution that promotes and safeguards the interests of the depositing public by providing insurance coverage on all bank deposits. “Bank deposit mo, protektado!” is also PDIC’s official corporate tagline. PDIC aims to sustain the conduct of the Caravan in various regions nationwide to make PDIC’s services more accessible to stakeholders. * * * * * The Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC) was established on June 22, 1963 by Republic Act 3591 to provide depositor protection and help maintain stability in the financial system by providing deposit insurance.
