Date of Release: July 8, 2019
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Abot Lingkod. The Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC) brings its services closer to regional stakeholders through the pilot run of the PDIC Caravan – Abot Lingkod Program in Davao City.

The Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC) successfully conducted the pilot run of the PDIC Caravan – Abot Lingkod Program on June 18 to 20, 2019 during the Kabisig Government Expo at the Abreeza Mall in Davao City. PDIC personnel addressed clients’ inquiries on settlement of deposit insurance claims and claims against the assets of closed banks, payment of loans with closed banks, and purchase of properties through public biddings or negotiated sale. PDIC also held an information dissemination campaign among the public to increase public awareness on PDIC’s mandates and the benefits and limitations of deposit insurance.

PDIC President Roberto B. Tan, the guest of honor at the Kabisig Government Expo’s opening ceremony, recognized the opportunity provided by the expo in raising public awareness on deposit insurance and the protection provided by depositing in banks. In his speech, he said, “The expo is a platform that will help us pursue the objectives of our organization to make people become more aware that PDIC protects deposits in banks. We aim to sustain the conduct of the PDIC Caravan in various regions nationwide to make PDIC’s services more accessible to stakeholders.” At the same time, the PDIC President encouraged all depositors, especially the youth and those who have just started working and earning, that the safest place to keep their hard-earned savings is in the banks.

Alongside the PDIC Caravan was the conduct of the Be a Wise Saver (BAWS) campaign, PDIC’s financial literacy advocacy, in Assumption College of Davao and Ateneo de Davao University. PDIC likewise met with various stakeholders such as bank groups and real estate brokers to forge collaborative partnerships to help PDIC better carry out its mandates.

The PDIC Caravan highlighted this year’s observance of the 17th Depositor Protection and Awareness Week (DPAW) on June 16 to 22, 2019. This year’s DPAW theme, “Bank deposit mo, protektado!”, aimed to inform and assure the public that there is a government institution that promotes and safeguards the interests of the depositing public through deposit insurance. “Bank deposit mo, protektado!” is also PDIC’s official corporate tagline.
