23. Does PDIC issue regulations to banks?

Yes. Section 3(b)(1) of Republic Act No. 3591, as amended (PDIC Charter) states that the PDIC Board of Directors has the authority to approve and issue rules and regulations to promote and safeguard the interests of the depositing public and to help develop a sound and stable banking system, for the compliance or information of banks, depositors, or the general public. PDIC’s regulatory issuances contain rules, regulations, guidelines, and procedures that banks must comply with in relation to their operations.

the deposits of all banks. PDIC exists to protect
depositors by providing deposit insurance coverage for the depositing public and help promote financial stability. PDIC is an attached agency of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.
