PDIC Starts Servicing Claims of RB Santol Depositors on Feb. 28

The Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC) announced that it will start servicing claims for insured deposits in the closed Rural Bank of Santol (La Union), Inc. on Wednesday, February 28, less than a week after takeover. RB Santol was taken over last February 22, 2007.

PDIC advised depositors to proceed directly to the bank premises where they maintained their deposit accounts and present to PDIC representatives their original evidence of deposits such as savings passbook or certificates of time deposit; and two (2) valid identification documents (IDs) with depositor's signature. PDIC will service claims during office hours, Monday to Friday.

For its Head Office located in Corro-oy, Santol, La Union and Bangar branch, also in La Union, PDIC will service claims until March 13. For its Tagudin (Ilocos Sur) and Balaoan (La Union) branches, PDIC will service claims until March 9 and March 20, respectively.

In a statement, PDIC reported that RB Santol had deposit liabilities consisting of 6,856 deposit accounts amounting to P52.63 million as of December 31, 2006.

The Monetary Board (MB) ordered the closure of RBSI on February 22, 2007 by virtue of MB Resolution No. 237. Depositors of RBSI are given two (2) years from bank takeover to file their claims or until February 23, 2009 only.
