PDIC pays depositors of RB Gigaquit (Surigao del Norte)

The Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC) reiterated that depositors of the closed Rural Bank of Gigaquit, (Surigao del Norte) Inc. (RBGI) who have not filed their deposit insurance claims may mail their claims to PDIC.

These claims will be processed at the PDIC Office in Makati City and notices of payment or document deficiency will be sent to depositors through registered mail.

The state deposit insurer said that depositors must mail their accomplished Claim Forms, Claim Status Sheets, original and photocopy of evidence of deposit such as Savings Passbook and Certificate of Time Deposit and photocopy of two (2) valid IDs with depositor’s signature at the Claims Processing Department, 4th Floor, SSS Bldg., Ayala Avenue corner V.A. Rufino Street, Makati City. Starting February 2012, PDIC had distributed Claim Forms during the Depositors Forum to depositors of RB Gigaguit and advised them that filing of deposit insurance claims should be done through mail. The PDIC has likewise sent individual notices with return envelope addressed to PDIC to depositors who have not yet filed their claims. Required forms may be downloaded from the PDIC website, www.pdic.gov.ph.

The state deposit insurer has started mailing in April 2012 the Notice of Payments to depositors who have filed earlier and those with valid accounts with balances of P10,000 and below and who were not required to file claims. These are depositors who have no outstanding obligations with the bank, have no other deposits with the bank with balance of above P10,000 and have complete mailing addresses found in the bank’s records.

PDIC advised that in accomplishing the Claim Form, the signature of the depositor should be similar to the signature in the valid IDs to be submitted. A parent is required to sign the Claim Form if the depositor is below 18 years old. In the case of “By” or “ITF” accounts, the agent as disclosed in the bank records may sign on the Claim Form. For joint accounts, each of the depositors in the joint account should accomplish a Claim Form. The original evidence of deposit such as Savings Passbook and Certificate of Time Deposit should be photocopied as many copies as there are depositors to the joint account.

Meanwhile, depositors below 18 years old are required to submit a photocopy of their Birth Certificates issued by the National Statistics Office (NSO) or duly certified copies issued by the Local Civil Registrar as additional documentary requirement.

Claims may also be filed personally at the PDIC Claims Counter, 4th Floor, SSS Building, Ayala Avenue corner V.A. Rufino St. Makati City from 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.

The PDIC reminded that depositors have until February 3, 2014 only to file their claims. After the said deadline, PDIC, as insurer, will no longer accept any claim for insured deposits.

PDIC assured depositors that it will pay all valid deposit insurance claims as soon as possible.
