PDIC WINS ANVIL AWARDS. PDIC’s financial literacy guidebook, Usapang Pera: Mga Dapat Alamin (inset), was awarded the Anvil Award of Merit in recognition of its excellence as a public relations tool aimed at helping promote financial literacy in the country. The Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation (PDIC) won the prestigious Anvil Award of Merit for Usapang Pera: Mga Dapat Alamin , a guidebook on Basic Banking and Financial Transactions. The award falls under the category of Special Publications – Public Relations Tools. The 49th Anvil Awards ceremony was held on February 26, 2014 and was organized by the Public Relations Society of the Philippines.

PDIC Officer-in-Charge Cristina Q. Orbeta said that the Anvil award is a testament to the effectiveness of Usapang Pera in helping achieve the PDIC’s goal of enhancing the financial literacy of Filipinos through the use of an easy-to-understand guidebook filled with engaging comic illustrations. The Guidebook may be downloaded for free from http://www.pdic.gov.ph/files/book/usapang-pera-new.pdf and from the websites of other government agencies such as the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), Social Security System (SSS) and the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA).

The guidebook’s target audience includes senior citizens and retirees, overseas Filipino workers and their families, socio-civic organizations, as well as members of the academe. Public seminars for these groups have been conducted using the guidebook as major reference.

In 2013, the PDIC was awarded the Deposit Insurance Organization (DIO) of the Year by the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI), a Switzerland-based organization of deposit insurance agencies worldwide. One of the criteria for the DIO award is the implementation of active public awareness campaigns which include the publication of information materials regarding deposit insurance. The publication of Usapang Pera is one of the PDIC’s ways of promoting public awareness and financial literacy, which is part of its initiatives in carrying out its public policy objectives of depositor protection and financial stability.
